It is definitely a smart idea to get the 4-point sway control weight distribution hitch, since that style offers the best sway control for the smoothest, most comfortable towing experience of your trailer. What you will need is a hitch from Equal-i-zer, and for a trailer that weighs 9,500 lbs when loaded, the correct option is the following:
- Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution with 4-Point Sway Control # EQ37141ET
This system is for tongue weights between 1,000 lbs and 1,400 lbs, which yours will be right in the middle of based on the 9,500 lb loaded weight you provided. This system does have the 4 points of sway control in the bars and the head unit, and also uses clamp-on brackets for an easier install than other systems; it even allows you to back up with the system on. Our customers who have used this system regard it very highly, with over 500 reviews (thus far) it has averaged nearly 5 out of 5 stars, as you can see on the product page (which is also where the price can be found).
The # EQ37141ET comes with everything you need for installation, including the hitch ball. The only other part you will need is the shank, and the right one depends on if your GMC 2500 has a 2 inch or 2-1/2 inch hitch receiver:
- 2 Inch Hitch: Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ90-02-4100
- 2-1/2 Inch Hitch: Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ90-02-4700
I have added some links below to video reviews for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
