Replacing Existing 3500 lb Axle With a 5200 lb Axle

Question:

Replacing a 3500 lb axle with a 5200 lb axle As you can see in the photos the leaf-springs are only 70 1/4 inches center-to-center and the only axle you offer that is the right length is 71 1/2. Do you have a solution? Also, as you can see in the other photo my current axle is square. I assume I will need to purchase Uinch bolts too?

When replacing a trailer axle, the spring seat spacing isn't super-critical because you can always relocate those by obtaining new spring seats and having them tacked into place where you need them. The hub face to hub face distance is what's critical.

What's the hub face dimension of your current axles? We offer 5.2K axles in the 3 most popular lengths (hub face to hub face) of 86-1/2 inches, 89 inches or 95 inches.

• 86-1/2 inch E-Z Lube axle, part # 8327816 for the axle only or # 8327816-EB for the axle + Hub/Drums.
• 89 inch E-Z Lube axle, part # 8327820 for the axle only or # 8327820-EB for axle + Hub/Drums
• 95 inch E-Z Lube axle, part # 6340624 for the axle only or # 6340624-EB for axle + Hub/Drums

You'll also need a U-bolt/plate kit for a 3 inch axle beam, part # APUBR-8.

If none of these axles are of the proper length, you'll need to order a custom axle locally as we don't ship them. A a good alternative to a custom axle would be to use a 5.2K capacity Timbren Axle-Less suspension, which would allow you to eliminate the leaf springs and the axle tube and simply bolt each unit to the trailer frame.

Timbren offers the following 5.2K models:

• 2 inch lift spindle, part # TASR5200S05
• 4 inch lift spindle, part # TASR5200S03
• 4 inch drop spindle, part # ASR5200S04

Since going with a higher rated axle means you'd also need to upgrade your leaf springs to realize the increased capacity offered by the axles, the Axle-Less system would be a great choice.

I'll link to a product demonstration video that you might find helpful.
