Troubleshooting Intermittent Curt Echo Brake Controller Trailer Connection Error Code

Question:

When I see trailer disconnected does that mean Bluetooth or power to the brakes? It usually reconnects in seconds. I understand if Bluetooth is lost you still have brakes but what does that error message mean Bluetooth or power?

If you are seeing a message that says trailer disconnected that would mean that the Echo # C51180 is not connected to the trailer at all and would not be able to control the brakes. If this is an intermittent issue then most likely it's just a bit of corrosion on the pins of your trailer connector that is preventing the connection from being made. Typically just taking some sandpaper to the pins of the connectors fixes this issue.

Mine has that warning error but the trailer is connected and the running lights are working and turn signal lights how could that be?

@Laurie It still is very likely caused by corrosion on the pins of your trailer connectors. Maybe the running light and turn signal circuit pins are clean by the brake output circuit which is in the 5:00 position is still dirty. Or it could also be a wiring issue on the trailer. You might trace the brake output circuit back from the connector to the brake assemblies to see if there is anything that damaged the wire and fix as needed.
