What Do I Need to Have a Complete Roof Rack System for a 2008 Toyota Tundra?

Question:

I have a 2008 Toyota Tundra Crew Cab, 4 door, 5.7 L Engine, with a sun roof, full loaded and wanted to know what I needed to install a complete roof rack system on my truck for transporting a 10 Foot Kayak. On top of the existing roof, I believe it has predrilled holes for a roof rack system but that has not been verified. There are 2 strips of black plastics running down on both sides of the truck. Can you please help? What exact TH#s are needed to complete a fully functional roof rack system? Thank you.

Since it is unconfirmed that there are mounting points on the roof of your 2008 Tundra, I will suggest a rack system that will work for you on a "naked" roof. For this rack, you will need:

- Thule WingBar Evo Crossbars - 47" # TH711220
- Evo Clamp Feet for Thule Crossbars - Naked # TH710501
- Fit Kit for Thule Evo Clamp Roof Rack Feet # TH145182

The reason why I would purchase a Thule rack is because all of these components are top-of-the line products by using heavy-duty lightweight aluminum and helping to reduce drag to ensure greater fuel efficiency. With a naked roof system, the installation is very easy.

- Thule Hull-A-Port Kayak Carrier w/Tie-Downs - J-Style # TH834
- Watersports Adapter for Aeroblade/Aeroblade Edge Bars - # THXADAPT11

The Hull-A-Port Kayak Carrier is great because it already comes with 2 Tie-down straps with padded buckles and 1 set of bow/stern tie-downs included for securing your kayak. The adapter easily connects to the bottom of the Hull-A-Port carrier to fit on the aero-style WingBar Evo Crossbars.
