Thule Cargo Box That Fits 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee For Long Skis

Question:

What is the biggest Thule Box I can for on a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee with factory chrome/black flush tracks, and Thule crossbars? My tracks seem to only run in the back, so I don’t get the necessary 55” or 51” front crossbar to hatch clearance. I only have 48. Does this seem right? I would like to transport skis that are 180cm, so the 16 cf box might not cut it. Thank you so much!

We can get your 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee hooked up with a Thule cargo box that will be able to accommodate your longer skis. In regards to hatch clearance, I did check the clearances for every cargo box, and with your measurement of 48 inches, there isn't an option that will allow you to fully open the hatch with the cargo box on due to the length needed for your skis.

So what you will need to carry your skis is one of the Alpine line of boxes, which are designed for longer skis like your 180 cm skis. The two that have the needed length for your skis are the following:

- Thule Pulse Alpine Rooftop Cargo Box # TH613

- Thule Motion XT Alpine Rooftop Cargo Box # TH629506

The Pulse is capable of carrying skis up to 210 cm while the Motion XT can carry skis up to 215 cm. The Motion XT is a more premium option due to its larger available cargo space (16 cu ft vs. 11 cu ft), weight capacity (165 lbs vs. 110 lbs), and its dual-opening lid compared to the Pulse's single-opening lid, but if you're mostly looking to use the box to carry skis and a smaller amount of gear, the Pulse Alpine's value is really hard to beat.

I have added links below to some video reviews for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
