Reese M5 Series 5th Wheel Hitch for 2011 Ford F-350 w/Prep Package and 8.5 Foot Wide Toy Hauler

Question:

I am considering purchasing a Forest River Vengeance 306v toy hauler 36 feet. With the short bed I know I will probably need the 18k slider. I also was considering adding the side winder for additional reach. What would be my best choice for this towing combination of my 2011 F-350 with the ford prep package and the Vengeance 306v toy hauler?

It looks like the Forest River Vengeance is 8-1/2 feet wide. This is important in choosing between a slider and a fixed hitch with a Sidewinder. A slider cannot be slid back when a Sidewinder is used because it places too much weight behind the rear axle and creates too much stress.

The Sidewinder and fixed hitch would be the way to go. For your 2011 Ford F-350, you can use either the 20K # RP30921 or the 27K # RP30922.

To determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit, you will need to look at the pin box manufacturer and model number on the trailer. There is usually a sticker or plate on the pin box with this information. Then you can use the FAQ article I have linked to determine if there is a Sidewinder that will fit.

If there is then the use of the fixed hitch and Sidewinder will give you plenty of clearance between the trailer and truck cab to make tight turns.
