Redarc Brake controller RED44FR
Question:
Is this unit compatible with a 2016 Volvo XC90 T6? I have been towing a 4100lb trailer and using a wireless brake controller but cant seem to get it adjusted so as to totally eliminate brake lockup at slow speeds. Looking to try and get away from the wireless option for something that will give me a smoother braking. If this unit is not an option would you be able to recommend something? My RV dealership recommended the wireless option when I bought the camper last summer. Said they dont like to mess with wiring in the Volvo due to how sophisticated it is. Just wondering if that was the easy way out for them. Thank You!

It is possible to install the Redarc Tow-Pro # RED44FR into virtually every vehicle but will depend on the experience that the installer has. Most RV dealerships only like to go the Plug and Play route, which your 2016 Volvo XC90 does not offer.
The Brake Controller is looking for 4 wire connections. A constant 12v power, a 12V ground, a brake switch power(the wire that only shows power when pedal is pressed) and an output to the trailer 7-way. If this is something that you want to attempt yourself the brake switch is generally mounted onto the brake pedal assembly. You can use a Circuit Tester # PTW2991 to locate the correct wire as well as confirm a good ground wire connection. You could also reach out to your local Volvo dealer to see if they can install it for you or give you the location of the correct wire.
