Solution to Turn 4-Way Plug on 5th Wheel Into 5-Way Plug to Tow Boat Trailer With Electric Lockout
Question:
Hi. Have a flat 4 plug at the back of my 5th wheel. I have electric lock out on my boat trailer and a flat 5 wire plug. Can I splice into the electric brake wire on my 5th wheel and run that wire to the back of my 5th wheel and convert to a flat 5 and plug together to make the boat brakes release?. Thanks

I have a solution for you, but you're not going to use the signals from the brakes. You'll want to use the reverse light circuit and the Tow Ready 4 Pole to 5 Pole Trailer Wiring Adapter # 20036. Boat trailer lockouts are typically tied into the signal from the reverse light, so when the truck gets put in reverse it releases the brakes and allows you to back up. The Tow Ready # 20036 will allow your boat trailer to function in that manner by basically turning your 5th wheel's 4 way plug into a 5 way to match your boat.
I've linked some review and installation videos of this adapter for you to check out and use as a guide.
