Recommended Easy to Install Brake Controller for 2019 Subaru Ascent
Question:
I am new to towing a braked camper trailer with my 2019 Subaru Ascent. Ascent has dealer installed Subaru tow package. I will be towing a Winnebago Hike 20’ single axle camper. Assuming the brake controller is a must, which is better for this vehicle towing a single axle camper? It looks like the choices are Curt or Redarc. I would like to mount knob on dash blank. And is this easy for me to install on my own?

Yes, you will need a brake controller to control your trailer brakes and I recommend the RedArc Tow Pro Elite # RED44FR with plug and play adapter # 3062-P because the knob is a bit smaller and easier to find an acceptable place to mount in most vehicles. Overal the Tow Pro Elite and Curt Spectrum # C51170 are very similar controllers in their operation and the installation process, I just prefer the Red Arc because the knob is a bit more aesthetically pleasing and easier to install. In most cases if your Subaru Ascent has a rocker switch panel you can install it into that using the # 331-TPSI-001 to give you a nice, clean installation. Since this is a plug-and-play type installation it will be a fairly easy process.
I've linked a review video of the Tow Pro Elite for you to check out, as well as an installation video that you can use as a guide.
