Replacement Rivet Nuts for Reese Dual Cam Hitch

Question:

I have a 2008 Airstream 27FB travel trailer with the original Reese Dual Cam hitch. The 1/2inch bolts securing the dual cam bracket to the A-frame of the trailer have are loose and cannot be retightened. The original installation did not use rivet nuts and the hex head bolts were not installed with lock washers. The holes drilled into the frame are 1/2 inch diameter and threaded, but slightly elongated due to wear 75,000 miles towing on the hitch and trailer. Can I fix this problem by drilling the holes out to 11/16inch and purchasing the pack of 4 Reese Rivet nuts from you to put in the hole to secure the cam bracket with the old 1/2inch bolts?

According to Reese, it is perfectly acceptable to use their # RP58507 rivet nuts to fasten the dual cam bracket to the trailer frame. Reese developed the rivet nuts because they found that over time, it was possible for the attachment holes in the tube frame to elongate.
