Bent L-Brackets For Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution C17500

Question:

I bought this system from you guys about a year ago. 1k tongue 10k load rating. It has been used exactly 5 times. Old trailer 3 times....new trailer 2. New trailer was re-installed by local dealer recently. Didnt have any issues with old trailer. New trailer is a Jayco 2019 jay flight rocky mountain edition which is less weight supposedly. Trailer was not loaded with water and few supplies. We do not have much in the storage and all tanks are in the rear. Nothing was in the truck bed. How does this happen?

Thanks for the photo and I'm sorry this happened regarding the Curt TruTrack Weight Distribution System w/ Sway Control # C17500.

There's a few reasons why the L-brackets would bend, and one of them would be too high or a tongue weight. You mentioned it was not loaded much but that is still at least a possibility because the Jayco Jay Flight has an 8,150 lb GVWR so its tongue weight could have been over the 1,000 lb limit. It isn't super likely though if you weren't loaded but I did want to mention it as something that could be possible.

Other things that may have caused it are if the brackets are not positioned at the correct distance and possible jackknife-type turn putting too much stress on them, or the brackets were attached too tightly and not the 25 ft-lb of torque needed for the nuts.

Those would be the reasons the brackets would bend like that, but you can get replacements for the # C17500 with the Replacement Frame Brackets # C17508.
