Is a Weight Distribution Hitch Needed To Tow 2015 Shasta 16 Trailer W/ 2012 Nissan Frontier Pro X?
Question:
I’m thinking about getting a weight distribution hitch to pull my 2015 Shasta 16 ft trailer. I pull Nissan Frontier pro x 2012. What hitch should I purchase or do I really don’t need one?

A weight distribution hitch is recommended anytime the GVWR of your trailer is 50% or more of the weight of the tow vehicle.
I was unable to find the GVWR of your 2015 Shasta 16 ft trailer but the dry weight is around 2500lbs and since your 2012 Nissan Frontier Pro X weighs between 4350-4500lbs depending on the options a weight distribution hitch would be a good idea.
Now the correct weight distribution hitch is dependent on the total tongue weight of your setup which is the tongue weight of your fully loaded and ready to tow trailer plus the weight of any cargo behind the rear axle of your Frontier. The easiest way to get an accurate tongue weight reading is by using a tongue weight scale like the # e99044, but there are other methods outlined in the included help article.
I recommend going with a Fastway e2 Weight Distribution hitch as the quality of the hitch for the money is hard to beat, and the built in 2-point sway control does a great job at keeping your trailer going straight down the highway.
If your total tongue weight falls between 250-600lbs the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution w/ 2-Point Sway Control - Trunnion - 6,000 lbs GTW, 600 lbs TW # FA92-00-0600 would be a great option. This system does not include a hitch ball so you will need either 2" hitch ball # A-90 or 2-5/16" hitch ball # 19286 to match the coupler on your trailer.
If you find your total tongue weight is over the 600lb max of the # FA92-00-0600 I recommend stepping up to the # FA92-00-0800 which works with total tongue weights ranging from 400-800lbs. This system also does not include a hitch ball so you will still need 2" # A-90 or 2-5/16" # 19286 to match the coupler on your trailer.
If you can tell me the total tongue weight of your setup I would be happy to confirm the correct system for you.
I included videos of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
