How To Choose Between a 1,000 Psi and 1,200 Psi Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator

Question:

I have two 3500# axles with dexter 10 x 2.25 drum brakes. I know that you recommend 1000psi electric over hydraulic for the 3500# axles and 1200psi for I believe 7000# axles. Is 1200 psi just too much pressure for the lighter trailer? I did notice Dexter recommends 1000psi all drum brakes on their site. Also, does it matter if the brakes are single or double servo? Many thanks, paul

Expert Reply:

In regards to an electric over hydraulic actuator, the 1,000 psi model is for drum brakes and the 1,200 psi model is for disc brakes. The size of the axle, etc. are not factors. The most popular option we offer is the HydraStar Vented Marine Electric Over Hydraulic Actuator part # HS381-8067 for disc and part # HS381-8065 for drum.
