Adding 7-Way and Trailer Brakes to 2010 Toyota Highlander for Towing RPOD RP-190 with Sway Control
Question:
Good morning, I have a 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid with a flat four connection along with a CURT 13530 receiver and plan to two an RPOD RP-190, which has a hitch weight of 336lb and dry weight of 2766lb. I am looking to find out what I need to purchase from a 7-way plug and weight-distribution / sway control? Thank you

For the 7-Way Plug use Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7. It will allow you to plug in your 4-Way and gives you wiring for the remaining circuits of the 7-Way as well as connectors and fasteners. Rather than wiring in a brake controller I recommend going with the Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller # C51180. This will save you time on wiring and allows you to use the brake controller with any vehicle that has a 7-Way connector. It is also proportional so once you set it the first time for your combination it will modulate your braking by sensing when you brake hard or light.
The Curt hitch you are referring to fits the 2004-2007 Toyota Highlander. Your 2010 Toyota Highlander Hybrid would utilize the Curt # 13534 Receiver. This Receiver unfortunately is not capable of using a Weight Distribution Hitch. Because of this I recommend using Tuson Electronic Sway Control System for Electric Trailer Brakes # 335TSC-1000. It monitors both speed and movement to apply the correct amount of braking to your RPOD RP-190 to counteract sway.
