Solution For Trailer Wiring Coming Unplugged On Sharp Turns

Question:

Hi, I need to replace a ball mount with a Class III Ball Mount with 2 Ball - 2 - 5,000 to 7,500 lbs for my 17 Toyota 4Runner. However, I would like to shorten the length of the protrusion from the hitch to the ball. Currently, I have a 3 inch gap from the hitch to the lip of the mount. I would like to get a mount that is shorter, if not completely flush against the hitch. I have a shorter than normal trailer power cord that tends to pull loose when I make a right turn. Thanks!

The shortest ball mount available for your application is the Curt Towing Starter Kit for 2" Hitches - 2" Ball - 3/4" Rise, 2" Drop # C45534. This is class 3 and rated 7,500lbs max towing capacity. It measures 7-1/2" from center of hitch pin hole to center of ball hole. If this is not short enough, then you will want to just go with a trailer cord extension which is a safer route anyways.

If you have a 4 way flat trailer plug then go with Hopkins Endurance Easy-Pull 4-Flat Extension # HM48144 for 12 inch extension or Hopkins Endurance Easy-Pull 4-Flat Extension w/ 2 Grip Rings # HM47114 for 48" extension. If you have a 7 way trailer plug then I recommend going with Curt Universal 5th Wheel/Gooseneck 7-Way Extension # C56080. This is 7 feet long and can be mounted on your trailer tongue using Curt Mounting Bracket # C67UR.

I have attached demonstration videos for you.
