Options For Carrying 2 Carbon Fiber Bikes On A 2013 Ford Edge Sport
Question:
Im trying to find a bike rack that will fit my 2013 Ford Edge Sport. The Sport has many different body moldings and a larger spoiler than the common Edge. Its all factory but I am not able to find anything that wont damage the spoiler. Im also open to mounting a hitch but I dont want to cut through the sport body work below the bumper. Both my mountain bikes have the larger carbon tubing, so I also need to know if I need adapters for the size of the tubes and for the position of the crossbar, since its not straight like common male road bikes. Please advise what will work.

The Yakima Full Back 2 Bike Strap Rack - Trunk Mount - Adjustable Arms # Y02634 is confirmed to fit your 2013 Ford Edge Sport. This is designed to be compatible with most spoilers, however, it will indeed put some added stress on the spoiler. It works with most frame designs, but to make sure it will work well with your large frame carbon fiber bikes I would use Adapter Bar # SR0500 along with the Yakima Full Back 2 Bike Rack. This adapter will attach to the bike's seat post and handlebar post and will not attach to the bike's frame.
A safer and much better route would be to go with a hitch-mounted bike rack. Hitch bike racks typically have a higher weight capacity; also, a trailer hitch receiver is always a handy addition to any vehicle. It seems like your main concern with a trailer hitch is the possibility of needing to trim your plastic bumper on your Sport model. Rest assured, because luckily the Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # 75728 does not require any trimming and will fit your Sport model very well as you can see in the photo I attached.
For a bike rack that fits this 2" hitch receiver I would look into Kuat Sherpa 2.0 2-Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting - Gray # SH22G. This bike rack is our most popular carbon fiber-compatible bike rack. It secures the bike by the wheel so it does not interfere with the carbon fiber frame in any way. The weight capacity is 40lbs per bike and it fits wheels up to 3" wide. I have attached demonstration videos for these products.
