Recommended 4 Bike Rack That Tilts Away From Vehicle and Works with Up to 29 Inch Tires
Question:
Hi, can you please recommend a hitch mounted platform rack for 4-bikes? We will be going on a 2,500-mile road trip through the Rockies this summer, carrying a 29” full suspension bike and three hard tail bikes with 27.5” and 26” tires. We’re looking for a rack that will be easy for my wife to operate while keeping our bikes very secure given the distance. The rack will be used with a 2019 BMW X5 – ideally, we’d like to be able to open the hatch with the bikes loaded. Thank you!

I recommend using the RockyMounts SplitRail LS 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Tilting - Wheel Mount # RKY11404-4, because as a platform rack it'll be easy to load and the rack tilts away from the vehicle to open the hatch with your bikes loaded up. This rack is designed to work in 2" hitch receivers like the one on your 2019 BMW X5. We've had several others use this rack for long road trips with rave reviews and it's going to be the perfect solution for your long trip through the Rockies. This rack can handle your bikes with 26" up to 29" diameter tires and I really like that it secures the bikes by the wheels instead of the frame, so you won't need to worry about scratching up the frames if your bikes have carbon frames.
I've linked a short review video of this rack for you to check out.
