Will Gooseneck Adapter Work On 2019 Ram 3500 Short Bed with Pucks

Hello. I have a 2019 Ram 2500 4x4 CrewCab with a 6.5 bed. It has the puck system in it. I am pulling a fifth wheel camper with a sliding hitch. I hate that that hitch takes up most of the bed as well as being way to heavy to remove. I recently heard about changing to a gooseneck system. But want to know if these will work with my bed length, and are safe.

There are products which convert the fifth wheel connection on the trailer to a gooseneck so it can be used with a gooseneck hitch therefore taking the fifth wheel hitch out of the equation. The Reese Goose Box 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Air Ride Coupler Adapter part # RP85FR for example is one of the best options for this since it won't affect the trailer frame warranty. That said, it won't increase or provide more turning clearance as is the case with any of these adapters.

Unfortunately, dealing with a bulky fifth wheel hitch is just a part of towing with a short bed. The other option would be to switch to a rotating pin box and lighter fixed fifth wheel hitch. A Reese Sidewinder 5th Wheel King Pin with Rotating Turret would allow you to use a fixed fifth wheel hitch like the Reese M5 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Single Jaw - 20,000 lbs # RP30928 with Wedge # RP44FR.
