Determining Which Hub and Drums And Electric Trailer Brakes For Adding Electric Brakes To Trailer

Question:

So I’m looking to put brakes on my trailer. Or does not have existing brakes or drums. If I purchase Item # AKEBRK-35-SA are the drums included or sold separately?

The Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies - 3,500 lbs # AKEBRK-35-SA would work if you have 3500lb axles, but do not included the hub and drum assemblies.

I would be happy to recommend everything you will need to add trailer brakes to your trailer, but to determine the correct hub and drum assemblies I will need to know which inner and outer bearings your current hubs use, and the axle rating of your axle.

The easiest way to determine which inner and outer bearings your trailer uses is to pull one of the hubs and look for the bearing number stamped on the face of each bearing as shown in the included picture of the # L44649.

If your bearings are worn to the point that you cannot read the bearing numbers you will need to use digital calipers like # PTW80157 to precisely measure your spindle according to the included diagram.

To find the axle rating I recommend checking the tag on the axle which will list the axle rating. If the tag is missing or unreadable you can find the axle capacity by the GVWR of the trailer.

If you can email me back with the info on your bearings and axle I would be happy to recommend everything needed to add electric trailer brakes to your trailer.

I included a link to a helpful article that goes over everything needed to add electric trailer brakes for you to take a look at.
