Determining Towing Capacity of Vehicle and Hitch if Vehicle is Rated Lower
Question:
The 2020 Honda Pilot towing hitch says it can tow up to 8000lbs. But the 2020 Honda Pilot says it has a max tow of 5000lbs AWD model So do i go with 5000lbs or 8000lbs reference when looking at how much I can tow

In any towing setup you are only as strong as your weakest component. So for your 2020 Honda Pilot that would be the vehicle that is rated for 5,000 lbs and not a higher rated hitch like the Curt part # C13146.
