Question:

Hello, Im ooking for a trailer brake controller for a 2006 Monaco Knight RV on a Roadmaster chassis. The coach is wired for brake controls 5 wires, 6 pin adapter. Do you make an adapter for this? If not, can I wire it up with one of your products? My wires are all white and labeled: 157 GND 196 TRLR BRK 1958 TRLR CHRG 199 IGNITION 197 TO BRK CONT Thank you, James

I have a solution for you, but there won't be a plug and play harness to install a brake controller on your 2006 Monaco Knight; you can certainly hard wire one in though. I recommend using the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195, which will give you responsive proportional braking for your towed trailer.

In order to install the P3 via hard wire I do recommend testing a few of those wires with a circuit tester like the # PTW2993 to confirm their function-namely the 196 and 197 wires. The 197 wire should only receive 12v power when the brake is pressed; if the 196 instead has 12v power only when the brake pedal is pressed then the functions will be reversed in the explanation I've included below.

To begin, you will start by connecting the brake output wire (196 wire) to the brake output wire (blue wire) of the P3 brake controller.

The red wire from the P3 brake controller will be the stoplight switch wire and will be run to the stoplight circuit of the Monaco. You will want to find a circuit that sees voltage when the brakes are applied and none when the brakes are not- I believe this should be the 197 wire.

The white wire from the controller will be run to the negative side of the vehicle battery using wire 157.

The black wire will need to be run to the positive side of the vehicle battery through a 30 Amp Pollak Circuit Breaker, part # PK54530. You could also connect this to the 199 wire, but the preferred wiring will be directly to the battery with a circuit breaker.

I've linked a review video of the Tekonsha P3 for you to check out, as well.
