How To Wire An Auxiliary Battery, Lights, And Fan On A 2019 Triton Vault Enclosed Trailer

Question:

I have a 2019 Triton Vault 7x14V enclosed trailer that is all aluminum. I would like to add two 12v lights, small 12v fan and fuse box to deep cycle battery. Where is the safest place to ground the battery, lights, fan and fuse box? Thanks for the help!

You do not necessarily need to ground an auxiliary battery to the trailer, but you can ground it to the trailer frame if you are wanting to maintain it with the 12v output wire on your vehicle's 7 way; keep in mind this will maintain it and not completely charge it. I would use 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger # CTEK56353 to charge your battery. If the frame is aluminum, it is not recommended to run a ground wire to the frame as this can cause ground issues; with an aluminum frame you can route the ground wire to the ground pin on the vehicle's 7 way if you are wanting to maintain the battery. On an aluminum trailer you will want to run the ground wires inside the trailer to the lights/fan; do not connect to the frame even if you are not using the 12v output wire from the 7 way. If the frame is NOT aluminum, then you can ground the battery directly to the trailer frame and run the light/fan ground wires directly to the battery or the trailer's frame.

You could store the auxiliary battery inside the trailer or outside the trailer depending on your preference. I have linked the part of our site that lists the various battery boxes we have. I recommend using junction box Trailer Wiring Junction Box # 38656 to connect your battery to the 12v lights and 12v fan. For wiring, use 10 Gauge Primary Wire # 10-1-1, which is sold per foot. Optronics LED RV Interior Double Dome Light with Switch # RVILL34 is a great option for LED lights; these are very popular and have great customer reviews.

I have attached demonstration videos for these products.
