Why Cant Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount for 2 Hitches # 325-GH-12001 Flip Upside Down

Question:

Is there a way to get a 1 or 2 inch rise with the Gen-Y Glyder 2-in 3.5-in rise hitch? It seems this should be possible by simply inverting the whole hitch assembly not just the ball platform but will it support the load this way?

To switch between the rise and drop position of the Gen-Y Glyder Shock Absorbing Ball Mount for 2" Hitches # 325-GH-12001 requires removing the ball platform, flipping it, and then reinstalling it to the bracket. The main shank assembly can't flip as it is angled up slightly due to it's spring setup. It would not function properly with the spring assembly inverted.

With just the platform inverted using the lower set of mounting bolts on the shank you'd get the lower 1-2 inch rise you are wanting.

On your web page for this product the there is an etrailer video review by Jeff describing this hitch. In it he clearly states that the mount can only be used in the drop position (about the 1:00 mark in the video). I was really hoping that the ball platform could be inverted so this hitch becomes a 2" rise as mentioned in the above question. Can you confirm that it is possible to flip the ball platform in spite of what Jeff says in the video? Thanks, Jeff Jones

@JeffJ Jeff was referring to just flipping the entire assembly whereas what I mentioned is a different thing and is possible.

Thanks for the confirmation Jameson. Can you tell me how much rise there will be with the platform inverted? Thanks, Jeff

@JeffJ It would be right at a 0 inch rise/drop since platform would be right at the same height as the top of the ball mount's shank.
