Having a cross-pin coupler lock like # e98888 in place isn't required, but it's a good idea for both theft protection and protection against vandalism.

The best way to secure your trailer with the #DM89FR coupler is to use a locking pin such as #e98888 to deter the coupler from being tampered with. I would also recommend the etrailer Trailer Wheel Lock #288-02020 for added security.
