Other than reliability which I'll get to in a minute, the other important factor in choosing a supplemental braking system would be how long you're planning on keeping the vehicle.
If you're only planning on keeping the vehicle for a year or three, a portable system like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR would be a great choice because you won't have to pay for an expensive installation and you can move it easily to your next vehicle. This system is very reliable and is highly rated by our customers, and is the most popular choice among Grand Cherokee owners.
If you're more of a 'drive it until it dies' person like me, a permanently mounted system would make sense. Our most highly rated permanently mounted systems are from Demco. If your motorhome has air brakes, you'd want to use their # SM99243 Air Force One, or for coaches with hydraulic brakes, use the # SM99251 Stay-IN-Play DUO. These systems do require some installation, but once they're installed, they're easy to use and unobtrusive when you're not towing the vehicle. These systems are also very reliable and highly rated by our customers. They're also a favorite of our installers.
I've linked to product install and demonstration videos for the products mentioned above.
