Setting Up 2002 Toyota Tundra for Tandem Axle Trailer With Brakes

can 2 axle trailer brakes be added to Toyota 2002 tundra with only a 4 pin connection . what do I need .

In order to actuate your trailer brakes, you'll need to add a brake controller and a 7-way trailer connector. A 4 pin connector provides circuits for the taillights, not not brakes.

To begin, you'll need a functional 4 pin trailer connector. If yours isn't working, you can replace it with part
# 118425. Next, you'll need a brake controller. I'd recommend going with a proportional style controller like the Tekonsha Primus, part # TK90160 for safer, more effective and more predictable braking. To install the controller, you'll need our Brake Controller Install Kit, part # ETBC7.
