The Draw-Tite Max-E-Loader Trailer Hitch Receiver # 41536 you were looking at is a great choice for your 2001 Dodge Ram Quad SLT to tow your car trailer.
To add a 7-way connector to your Ram you will need to first install a 4-way connector if you do not already have one. I recommend the T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # 118329 as it is a plug and play installation and will not require any splicing into your factory wiring.
With a 4-way connector installed you can then install the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller # ETBC7 which will plug into your 4-way connector and will only require a few more wiring connections as shown in the included installation video. The # ETBC7 will give you the 7-way connector you need to control your trailers brakes, but also has a 4-way connector that can be used when towing trailers without trailer brakes.
When we installed the # ETBC7 on a 2001 Dodge Ram we used the No-Drill Mount for Electrical Mounting Bracket # 18140 to mount the connector to the trailer hitch receiver.
For a top of the line trailer brake controller I recommend the extremely reliable Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 which has an easy to read LCD screen, and built in diagnostics that are easy to read and understand.
I included videos for each of the products mentioned for you to take a look at.
