Brake Controller Recommendation for 2010 Mini Cooper Clubman With 7-Way

Question:

Greetings, I have a 4 pin trailer hook up on my cooper clubman 2010. I need to buy a brake controller and brakes. My 2020 Scamp has a seven pin hook up I’ve bought an adapter for this. Which brake controller do you recommend? And is it universal to all trailer brake systems? If not what brake system do i need? Thank you for your help.

Since you already have the 7-way on your 2010 Mini Cooper Clubman, you will only need the brake controller, and they are universal to all electric trailer brakes. For the brake controller my favorite option and the one I highly recommend is the Brake EVN # TK63VR.

I love the I-Command because it is a great value due to its unique combination of quality and cost-effectiveness. The I-Command is going to give you smooth braking, is easy to use, and has a bright display that is simple to read and understand. For a combination of quality, reliability, and price, there really isn't a better option than the I-Command.

To install the I-Command in your 2010 Mini with a 7-way you will need the Tekonsha Wiring Adapter # 20127.

I have added links below to video reviews for you to check out as well of the adapter and the Draw-Tite I-Command # 5535.

In regards to electric brakes, that depends on just two things, the capacity of your axle and the measurement of your hub's drum. For a 2020 Scamp, it looks like you will have either a 2,000 lb axle or 3,500 lb axle, depending on the model, so here is what you will need for either, though I do recommend verifying what you have.

- 2,000 lb Axle With 7" diameter x 1-1/4" wide drum: Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-2
Mounting Hardware for 7" Brake Assemblies # BRKH7

- 3,500 lb Axle With 10" diameter x 2-1/4" wide drum: Electric Trailer Brake Kit # AKEBRK-35
Requires Mounting Hardware for 10" Brake Assemblies # BRKH10B
