Will Curt C51180 Echo Wireless Brake Controller Work With 7-way Connector on 2014 Mercedes GL450
Question:
My GL450 has a 7 pin connection but I have heard there is additional wiring needed in the cab. Does this eliminate this need?

It sure will!
The Curt Echo Brake Controller, part # C51180 will indeed eliminate any wiring in the vehicle cab. The Echo works wirelessly, and would allow you to use your smart phone to control the braking action. All it needs from your 7-way trailer connector is a functional 12-volt circuit from the battery. It's a pretty slick setup. Not only does it eliminate the need for any wiring in the cab, but it also eliminates the need to drill holes in your dash and hang a box from it that will bash your knees every chance it gets.
As long as the pin in the 1:00 position on your 7-way (see photo) is active with the vehicle ignition on, the controller installation will be plug-and-play.
If the pin isn't active, run a length of # 10-1-1 wire from the terminal that feeds that 12-v pin under the vehicle to the engine compartment through a # 9510 40 amp circuit breaker to connect to the positive battery terminal.
I've linked to a demonstration video where my buddy Dave explains how the controller works.
