Should Open Ends of Curt Hitch C13421 be Covered with Rubber Plug

Question:

Doesn’t seem like a good idea to have open ends on cross tube. Will 2” rubber hitch covers fit in open ends?

Having the crossbeam of the Curt trailer hitch # C13421 open instead of covered with a rubber cover would actually be more ideal in terms of preventing any corrosion. Rubber covers would not prevent all moisture from getting into the beam but they would drastically slow the evaporation process which means they'd hold moisture in the tube and cause corrosion to form faster.
