Troubleshooting Weak Trailer Brakes
Question:
Hello, I have an older Remeq enclosed trailer. I think its rated for 4500 lbs. I think it has 2-3500 lbs. axles There are 7 electric brakes on 1 axle. I replaced these a few year ago. The trailer really does not stop that well. Was looking at upgrading to 4- 10 brakes. I have a few questions that i hope you can help me with. 1. How do i know if my brake controller if putting out enough power to operat

Have you tried taking the brake controller's gain setting and putting it all the way up to the max setting and see if the brakes are still weak. If so, then most likely the issue is that the brakes are out of adjustment or the wiring for the brake output circuit is too thin. 10 gauge wire like part # 10-1-1 is the correct gauge to use which you might check to see if you have this.
Check to make sure the adjustment wheels of your assemblies are putting a light drag as you turn the wheel by hand.
