Curt Echo Brake Controller Installation on 2011 Volkswagen Touareg
Question:
I have a 2011 VW Touareg AND a 2005 Chevy Colorado. Will the Curt outboard controller work for me, and are there any extra parts I need? Im having the tow package for the VW installed next week. Heard horror stories about wiring that one, and this unit seems almost too good to be true. Thank

It's really not too good to be true.
As long as the 7-way trailer connector you're having installed has the 12-volt pin in the 1:00 position active, the Curt Echo wireless trailer connector, part # C51180 would be a plug and play installation on your 2011 Volkswagen Touareg with no extra parts necessary.
For the 2005 Chevy Colorado, you'll need a functional 4 pole trailer wiring harness like # 118301 and the # ETBC7L installation kit. The 118301 taps into the taillights circuits, and the install kit provides an adapter that converts the 4 pole to a 7-way. The only wiring necessary would be running 1 wire under the vehicle to the engine compartment, where it will connect to the positive battery terminal via the included circuit breaker.
I've linked to a demonstration video showing how the Curt Echo and the install kit for the Colorado works, as well as to a video showing the trailer wiring harness being installed on a 1st generation Colorado.
