Will Switching to LED Running Lights on Trailer Pulled by 2019 GMC Sierra Fix Them Going Out

Question:

When my trailer is hooked to my 2017 yukon all is fine. When I attached my 2019 seirra, the running lights incandescent come on for 1 sec and go out. All other lights work fine. When I attach my sierra to a trailer with LED lights all works fine. If I disconnect 5 of the 13 running lights on the trailer, they work when connected to my 2019 sierra. The moment I plug in another one of the 5, they go off in 1 second. I sespect that it is an amperage limit on the trailering program in the seirra. Suppose I change over to LED lights, for the running lights on my trailer...do you think that would help? Thanks

First, thank you for your detailed explanation, it was really helpful. And I think you hit the nail on the head with what the problem is in regards to your running lights going out when connected to your 2019 GMC Sierra. Something we have seen, especially with newer pick-ups, is that their factory trailer wiring is more complex and sensitive to trailer wiring, which is why when you unplug some of the lights they still work fine, but the full 13 lights is causing an overload.

So while you may want to first go ahead and just check that all your lighting connections are secure (it can't hurt), I do recommend replacing your incandescent running lights with LED lights like the Optronics LED Trailer Clearance or Side Marker Light # MCL66RB or # MCL81AB.

I have added a link below to our entire selection of LED running/clearance lights, and you can filter them based on the size, shape, and color you need for your trailer.
