What Would Cause Bumper Pull Trailer to Chuck When Towing

Question:

I have a ram 1500 and a Grand Design Imagine XLS 24MPR. I have added Summo Springs to both to smooth out the ride. This has helped alot, but I still have an issue with chucking. There is not issue of safety, I just want to improve the level of vibration in my camper. I was wondering if changing my factory equalizers for the lippert Road Armor equalizers might help. Additionally, I have a question about the Road Armor Equalizers. If I understand correctly if I get them I need to also change my hanging hardware. Some of the Expert QandAs on E-trailer reference a kit of hanging hardware that you dont seem to sell anymore.

If you are experiencing chucking when towing a bumper pull trailer you most likely having movement between the hitch and ball mount as that would be the most likely area that would create that type of noise and movement. An anti-rattle device would be the easy solution for that like the Quiet Hitch # RM-061 which pins the ball mount to the hitch tube.

Cushioned equalizers like the Road Armor part # LC696740 will improve the ride quality of the trailer suspension but they don't normally eliminate chucking.

What you described is porpoising which is more common on lighter duty tow vehicles like yours. Additional suspension enhancement could help but I'd need to know the year of your truck.
