Using A Gas Water Heater At 6,500 Foot Elevation

Question:

Im looking at putting this water heater in my camping trailer. I live in Colorado at around 6500ft elevation. Many of the tankless heaters Ive seen wont work at this elevation or above. Will this one work ok? Item # LSB44FR

Expert Reply:

Correct, at higher elevation gas powered tankless water heaters like the Fogatti # LSB44FR will not perform as expected. Any altitude over 4,000 ft high you will typically see around 4% BTU for every 1,000 ft above 4,000 ft in elevation. With a heating capacity of 41,800 BTU you can expect to see a 10% decrease in heating performance bringing the expected performance to around 37,620 BTU. To be extra safe, I recommend installing the Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide Detector # RS94FR to make sure that you don't have carbon monoxide leaking into your RV.
