When choosing a ball mount, the first thing to consider is the size of your trailer hitch receiver opening. Your Terrain will have either a 2 inch receiver opening or a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. You can find this by measuring the height and width of the receiver opening on your trailer hitch.
After that, we will want to find the correct rise or drop needed to tow your trailer level. To do this, we will need two measurements. You will want to park your truck and trailer on level ground to ensure the measurements will be accurate.
Next, measure from the ground to the top of your trailer hitch receiver opening. This will be your hitch height. After that, measure from the ground to the bottom of your trailer coupler. This will be your coupler height. You will use these two measurements to find the rise or drop that you will need to tow your trailer level.
If the hitch height is greater than the coupler height, then
hitch height - coupler height = drop
If the coupler height is greater than the hitch height, then
coupler height - hitch height = rise
