Recommended Bike Rack For 2005 Toyota RAV4

Question:

Good morning, can you recommend a bike rack for a 2005 Toyota Rav4? Not a spare tire rack but a hitch? Just need to be able to haul one bike. I am very very ignorant about these things so any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

I would be happy to recommend a hitch mount bike rack for your 2005 Toyota RAV4.

We currently offer a 2" and 1-1/4" trailer hitch recievers, and based on the hitches we have installed on RAV4's like yours we have found that from the center of the hitch pin hole on the receiver to the most outward part of the spare tire is 10".

With all that in mind I highly recommend the Swagman Trailhead 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches # S63360 which will work with both 2" and 1-1/4" receivers, and has a center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack is 11" which is enough to clear your spare tire. While the Swagman # S63360 is a 2 bike rack, we do not currently offer a single bike rack that is long enough to avoid your spare tire.

The Swagman # S63360 has some great features like being able to tilt away from the vehicle to allow you access to the rear cargo area of your vehicle, and will support 2 bikes up to 35lbs each. Adding the Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock and Cable for Swagman Bike Racks # S64031 will secure the bike rack to your vehicle and your bikes to the rack.

If you do not have a trailer hitch receiver on your 2005 Toyota RAV4 I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13524 which has a maximum tongue weight rating of 400lbs, and a maximum trailer weight rating of 4000lbs. In our experience the powder coat finish on the Curt hitches holds up the best to wear and tear, and are made in the USA.

I included a video of the Swagman # S63360 and a video of the Curt # C13524 being installed on a 2001 Toyota RAV4 for you to take a look at.
