According to Curt, the installation of the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness part # C56040 which is a fit for a 2019 Subaru Forester will require that the negative battery terminal be removed before starting. That said, I have installed several of these without issue and I can't say I have ever done this but I also can't recommend you go against the instructions from the manufacturer so I will leave this up to you to decide.
