Can a Fixed Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Change to a Slider for a 2003 GMC Sierra Short Bed

I have a 2003 2500series GMC serria it has the 6ft box i have the pro series 1500 hitch it is standard I want to know if there is a kit to turn it into a slide hitch?

Yes, you can change over your 16K Reese 5th wheel hitch from a fixed to a slider. You will need to use the Reese Fifth Wheel Slider w/ Rollers, # RP30048 or # RP50024. I have linked a video and instructions for you.

This slider will provide 10 inches of travel. To make sure the slider will provide enough clearance for you to safely make tight turns without hitting the trailer and truck cab together, there is a simple formula you can use.

Measure from the center of the hitch jaws where the king pin will be forward to the back of the truck cab. Then add 10 inches. Whatever you come up with will need to be at least 4 inches MORE than Half the width of the trailer overhang to safely make tight turns.

If you will not get the clearance using the slider then you will need to keep the fixed hitch and use a Sidewinder on the trailer. I have linked an FAQ article on Sidewinders for you.
