Which Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch is Best for a 2010 Chevrolet Silverado?

Question:

I have a 2010 Chevy Silverado pickup and am buying a fifth wheel trailer. Like what you say about using the round slider versus the square tube. I really need something that releases easily for removal as I am a contractor and need to use full length of truck bed. Will the one that you recomment RP30075 fit what I am looking for?

The options available for your Silverado can best be determined by using the attached link to our Fifth Wheel product page for the 2010 Chevrolet Silverado. Round slider rails are often preferred over square for having longer travel and potentially less chance for binding.

Using the drop-down menu at the top of the page you can select the series (1500, 2500 or 3500) and bed length for your truck. Next you can use the filters at the left hand side of the page (in blue) to choose the appropriate tongue weight (TW) and gross towing weight (GTW) for the trailer you intend to purchase.

For example, if you have a 1500 Series with 8-foot bed, and your fifth wheel trailer weights 12,000 pounds and has a tongue weight of 1800 pounds, you might select the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch 16,000 lbs and Base Rail Kit, part # RP30047 and # RP30035.

You will also need to select appropriate bed rails and a mounting bracket kit. If you choose a custom vehicle-specific bracket, rather than a universal fit, you can reduce your install time substantially. I also recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Starter Kit, part # RP30053, which includes a number of important items to maximize performance and protect your Fifth Wheel investment, such as a plastic lube plate, hitch cover and king pin lock.

I have also included a link to an article concerning Fifth Wheels and their installation that you might find useful as you evaluate competing products.
