Parts Needed To Install Trailer Brake Controller on 2010 Toyota Tundra Without Tow Package
Question:
I read the above article. How do I connect the black 12v power directly to my Tundras Sub BATT relay so I can use the 40amp Sub Batt fuse already in my fuse box? Is this possible, or do I need to install a separate breaker like you mention in the article and connect directly to the positive terminal of my battery? I dont have the tow package on my 2010 Tundra however, I do have the Sub Batt fuse and relay already in my engine compartment fuse box and I have the brake connector plug under the driver side dash.

You will need to install the black power wire directly to the battery of your 2010 Toyota Tundra with the 40-amp circuit breaker included in the Universal 7-way Installation Kit # ETBC7.
You will need a 4-way connector installed to use the # ETBC7, so if your Tundra did not come with a 4-way connector you will need to add one using the Vehicle Wiring Harness Kit # C59496.
Even though your Tundra has the brake controller plug under the dash, In our experience the plug will not be active since your truck did not come with the factory 7-way connector.
You will need to use # ETBC7 to add a functional trailer brake and power wire to the trailer brake controller, and hardwire the harness included with the trailer brake controller you purchase to the wires of # ETBC7 except for the white wire of the harness which will need to be grounded to the vehicle, and the red wire will attach to the cold side of the stop light switch that only gets power with the vehicles brakes applied.
The Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 you were looking at would be my first choice due to its reliability and easy to read LCD Screen that displays actual words instead of flashing lights that you need to memorize.
I included a video of the # ETBC7 being installed, and a video of the Tekonsha Prodigy P3 # 90195 for you to take a look at.
