Are Flat Towing Base Plates for 2021 Chevy Colorado Compatible With a Snow Plow Mount

Question:

I have a 2021 colorado 4x4 without adaptive cruise. It also has a plow on it. Id like to flat tow the vehicle, is there a base plate that will work without removing the plow frame?

The answer to your question will depend on how the plow frame attaches to the vehicle.

According to the owner's manual, your 4x4 Colorado is capable of being flat towed, assuming the relevant instructions listed in the manual are followed.

Roadmaster offers the # RM37VR direct connect base plate, which won't require the tow bar to have a crossbar which makes for a cleaner look and an easier connect/disconnect process. This base plate fits the basic Z71 package except for the Trail Boss model. It doesn't fit the ZR2 or ZR2 Bison models, the same holds true for the Demco, etrailer and Blue Ox base plates we offer.

If you look at the linked instructions, you can see via the provided photos how the base plates attach to the vehicle which should tell you if the base plates will work with the plow mount you currently have.

In addition to the base plates, you'll also need a tow bar, safety cables, taillight wiring, a supplemental braking system and possibly a high/low adapter if there's a greater than 3 inch height difference between the 13-3/4 inch base plate height (assuming the vehicle is at stock ride height on the stock tire size) and the height of the receiver on the motorhome. If the difference is greater than 3 inches +/-, you'll need the appropriate high/low adapter to get it within that range. I'll link you to our selection of adapters.

For a tow bar, I'd recommend the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain tow bar, part # RM-522. The Falcon All Terrain will allow you to connect up even if the car isn't perfectly lined up behind the motorhome. Just connect the tow bar to the base plates and drive off slowly. The arms of the tow bar will self-center and lock into place once the vehicle is centered behind the motorhome. The bar is non-binding, which means you won't need to struggle to unhook when the vehicle and motorhome aren't on ground that's perfectly level.

For safety cables, use # RM-643 and for taillight wiring, I'd recommend the Roadmaster # RM-15247 diode kit. You'll also need a # RM-766 battery disconnect, which will be compatible as long as the vehicle isn't a Diesel or have 2 batteries.

For a supplemental braking system, I like a portable system like the Blue Ox Patriot II, part # BRK2016. A 12-volt outlet, part # RM-9332 will also be needed. With a portable system, you won't need to pay for a time consuming and expensive installation like you would with a permanently mounted braking system. You can also easily transfer the system between vehicles if necessary.

In addition to the parts mentioned above, I've also linked to some product demonstration videos that you might find helpful.
