Does Brake Controller Lighting Up When Driving Drain Vehicle Battery

Question:

Hello, I was given a Curt triflex brake controller for my f150.. I am noticing that every time I apply my breaks when no trailer is connected my controller is reading 0.6. I’m concerned that this is causing a draw on my battery as I’m driving. Thanks for your help!

When you are driving the alternator of your vehicle is supplying more than enough amperage to the battery to keep it topped off. The stereo and headlights of your truck are drawing way more amperage than your Curt Triflex # C51170 so there would be nothing to worry about. You might still take some sandpaper to the pins of your trailer wiring to make sure they contacts are all clean. Sometimes corrosion on trailer wiring can confuse a brake controller into thinking a trailer is connected.
