Recommended Trailer Hitch Receiver And 7-Way/4-Way Trailer Connector Wiring For 2019 Ford Explorer
Question:
I want to get my son a tow hitch for his 2019 Ford Explorer for Christmas. I would also like to get a wire harness, however I would like to get him connector with 7eay plug but also a flat four. What harness/connector do you recommend? Also what mounting bracket will I need? Thanks for your time.

For your son's 2019 Ford Explorer I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver # 76034 due to it having the highest maximum tongue weight rating at 675 lbs and highest maximum trailer weight rating at 4500lbs. This doesn't nessacarly mean the vehicle is capable of that much weight, as you will need to check the owner's manual to verify the maximum Ford lists based on the options the vehicle has, but does mean it is a very strong trailer hitch receiver.
For wiring it will it will depend if the vehicle has the factory tow package or not.
If the Explorer does have the factory tow package you can just unplug the factory connector and use the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness for Factory Tow Package - 7-Way and 4-Pole Flat Connectors # C55774.
If the Explorer does not have the factory tow package you will need the Tekonsha T-One Vehicle Wiring Harness with 7-Way Trailer Connector # 118272 and instead of using the provided 7-way connector you will want the Hopkins Endurance Multi-Tow 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat Trailer Connector # HM40950. Using No-Drill Mounting Bracket # C57202 and Mounting Bracket # PK12711U will finish the install.
Since your son will be towing I would also take a look at the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900 which will include two ball mounts, two hitch balls, two hitch pins and clips, and a carrying case to finish off his towing equipment.
I included videos of all Draw-Tite # 76034 and Tekonsha # 118272 being installed on a Ford Explorer for you to take a look at.
