Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2011 Ford F-250 Super Duty

Question:

I am trying to determine whether a ball or turntable would be better for towing over rough ground. I will want to tow my gooseneck horse trailer over some rough ground between the paved road and the pony club ground. I am concerned about getting large pitch and roll angles between the tow vehicle and the trailer as we negotiate dips and hollows. The one situation I can think of has two large spoon drains between the road and the club grounds. Can you tell me what angles are possible to achieve between the tow vehicle and the trailer, in pitch and roll, with a ball and gooseneck? I will be using a 2011 Ford F 250.

For your 2011 Ford F-250 I recommend the B&W gooseneck hitch # BWGNRK1111. Since the trailer is a gooseneck trailer the ideal set up will be a gooseneck hitch. This way you will not have any adapters that could limit movement or add additional stress to the truck or trailer.

Many people prefer the gooseneck connection over other methods, such as a 5th wheel hitch, because it pulls better and offers more movement according to people who use and like gooseneck hitches. The fact that it is a turn-over type of ball does not change the way it tows plus you will have the added benefit of stowing the ball in the cavity for more use of the truck bed when not towing the trailer.

For large dips you will of course need to take it slow and at the first indication that something may be wrong, back it up and try approaching at a different angle. I have included a couple of links that should also help.
