Steps To Prevent Trailer Sway With A Utility Trailer

Question:

Would there be less fishtailing on my Kendon Utility trailer if I upgrade STR175/80R13 from Load Range C to D? My trailer load is well under the max 2000lb rating.

I suspect you have a different issue causing the fish tailing or sway while you are pulling your Kendon Utility Trailer.

The main benefit of going to a load range D tire like the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire # AM10210 is the increased load rating, but since you mentioned you're under the load rating of your load range C tires I don't think you will see any benefit.

I recommend verifying that you are at 50 PSI in your tires, and ensure that you have the correct rise/drop ball mount to level your trailer. It is also important that you are loading your trailer with most of the weight forward and center of your axle. Your trailer tongue weight should be 10-15% of the total trailer weight.

I included a helpful article that goes over safe loading of a trailer and how to measure for the correct rise/drop ball mount for you to take a look at.
