Recommended Weight Distribution Sway Control for 2020 Jayco Jay Flight SLX

Question:

Hi there. Ive just bought a 2020 RAM 2500 4x4 Tradesman standard wheels/tires, not lifted and a Jayco SLX 324BDS. Im worried about the shank and weight distribution hitch. The RV dealer wants to sell me what they have in the store EAZ-Lift Recurve R3 1000lb but I think that this would not work on this truck and trailer. You have a number of products that seem better. What is your recommendation? Thank you for your help.

According to my research, the tongue weight of your new Jayco Jay Flight will be somewhere between 1000-1350 lbs, so you'll want to be sure to get a system that can handle that tongue weight. Also, because travel trailers are especially vulnerable to sway caused by oncoming or passing traffic, it's pretty crucial that you use a weight distribution system that has an integrated sway control component.

I'd recommend going with an Equal-i-zer system like # EQ37141ET which is compatible with tongue weights from 1000-1400 lbs, which would be perfect for your travel trailer. The 2-5/16 inch trailer ball is included, but you'll also need to measure the level height above the ground of your trailer coupler and the height of the hitch receiver on the truck to determine the proper drop shank you need. I'll link to an article that explains how to determine the height difference so you can figure out the right drop.

If you need a shank for a 2-1/2 inch receiver with up to 12 inches of drop, the # EQ94FR would work. For a 2-1/2 inch receiver with up to 10 inches of drop, use # EQ90-02-4900. If you have a 2 inch receiver, use # EQ44FR for up to 12 inches of drop or # EQ90-02-4300 for up to 6 inches of drop.
