Troubleshooting Trailer Brakes that Lock Up After Installing 4-Way to 7-Way
Question:
Hello, I just installed your trailer kit #118325 and according to my tester that plugs in everything is correct. I am using a 7 pin plug connector with a four pin flat plug and running separate wires for my 12v and brake . The trailer brakes stay locked and wont release. Do you have any ideas why it stays locked?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Did the trailer ever have a 6-way installed on it? There are two common ways that 6-ways get wired and the only difference is that the 12 volt and the brake output circuits are swapped and this causes what you described. But the good news is that all you need to do currently is swap the two circuits and the brakes will stop locking up.
