Comparing Factory and Aftermarket Roof Racks for a 2020 Volvo V60

Question:

Hi, I’m looking for a roof rack for my 2020 Volvo v60. The Oem rack is much cheaper than Thule/Yakima. Are there any disadvantages to buying the Volvo rack and putting a Thule ski attachment on it?

The advantages of an aftermarket roof rack compared to a factory one are plentiful. For starters, the factory racks always have issues trying to mount certain accessories because the crossbars usually aren't the standard size aftermarket carriers are designed to work with so, in short, they will be much more compatible with roof mounted accessories. The aftermarket roof racks also have higher weight capacities, longer crossbars for more storage space, locking capability, and integrated channels. Last but not least, you can use them on different vehicles like when upgrading with usually only a new fit kit.

For a 2020 Volvo V60, I recommend the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Crossbar System part # RRVA126B-2 and part # RRSX046.
