Which is More Common Trailer Wiring Connector 7-Way or 6-Way

Question:

Im planning to pull a variety of trailers with my Curt Commercial Duty Hitch 15810 on my 01 Super-duty and am fine with using various adapters but want my receptacle that mounts near the hitch receiver to set me up for the most options I can have. I know I want a flat pin combo receptacle but dont know the difference between the 6 blade and the 7 blade and then the round pin circular plugs. Which will be the most common for a trailer with brakes most common trailer Ill pull and which receptacle will take the most adapters for trailer plugs with alternative configurations?

Expert Reply:

The 7-way blade trailer connector is the most common connector for use with trailer brakes. The 6-way is typically only used with horse/agriculutral trailers but even then the 7-way is still pretty common.

For a 2002 Ford F-250 we have the part # C55774 which gives you a 7-way and a 4-way.
